Ai-Chat Thread Manager

Ai-Chat Thread Manager is a browser extension for organising and resuming AI conversation threads across ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.

Data the extension handles

To provide its user-facing features, the extension can handle the following data on supported AI conversation pages:

  • Personal communications / conversation content: visible rendered chat messages are processed locally for Thread Insights, Context Health, Markdown export and Copy Handoff.
  • Website content: visible page content needed to resolve the current supported conversation and calculate local visible-content statistics.
  • Supported conversation page information: provider, thread identifier, thread title and related timestamps used to identify tracked threads and build the work queue.
  • Extension metadata supplied by the user: Status, Checkpoint and Next Action.
  • Extension-owned state: archive state, workspace preferences, Context Health snapshots, browser-sync preference and deletion tombstones.

The extension does not request access to general browser history and does not monitor unrelated websites. Its host access is limited to:

How data is used

The extension uses this data only to provide its disclosed continuity-management features, including:

  • tracking thread Status, Checkpoint and Next Action
  • showing the Unified Thread Work Queue
  • calculating local Thread Insights
  • producing advisory Context Health based on visible rendered content
  • creating user-requested Markdown exports
  • creating user-requested Copy Handoff text
  • backing up and restoring extension metadata
  • preserving archive/workspace state and safe deletion semantics

Context Health is an advisory visible-content estimate. It is not a measurement of a provider model's actual context-window utilisation.

Storage

Local-only is the default.

Thread metadata and extension-owned state are stored in browser extension storage on the user's device.

If the user explicitly enables browser sync, compatible lightweight extension metadata may be synchronised using the browser's own sync service/account. Full rendered conversation content is not stored by Ai-Chat Thread Manager as part of browser sync.

Disabling browser sync stops future synchronisation by the extension but does not automatically erase copies already retained by the browser's sync service.

Local processing and external transfers

Visible rendered conversation content used for Thread Insights, Context Health, Markdown export and Copy Handoff is processed locally in the browser.

Ai-Chat Thread Manager version 1.6.1:

  • does not operate a Nyota-X chat-data backend
  • does not send conversation content to an external AI service
  • does not use remote executable code
  • does not use an advertising SDK
  • does not use a third-party analytics SDK
  • does not sell user data
  • does not use user data for advertising, creditworthiness or lending purposes

Browser sync, when explicitly enabled, uses the browser provider's sync infrastructure as necessary to provide that user-selected feature.

User-initiated exports and clipboard actions

Markdown export, JSON backup/import and Copy Handoff are initiated explicitly by the user.

Copy Handoff can include the current thread title, provider, source URL, Status, Checkpoint, Next Action, observed statistics and excerpts from recent visible messages. The extension attempts to copy this generated text to the system clipboard only after the user invokes the action.

Users should review exported or copied content before sharing it with another service, particularly when the source conversation contains confidential, personal or sensitive information.

Data retention and deletion

Extension metadata remains in browser extension storage until it is changed, removed by the user, cleared by the browser/profile, or otherwise affected by browser storage lifecycle.

Remove metadata deletes the extension's metadata for the selected tracked conversation. It does not delete or modify the underlying conversation on ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.

Deletion tombstones are retained in bounded extension storage to prevent stale synchronised metadata from silently recreating intentionally deleted records.

JSON backup files and Markdown exports are saved only when the user explicitly requests them and are then controlled by the user as local files.

Security

The extension uses Manifest V3, an explicit Content Security Policy and least-privilege permissions. It does not load remotely hosted executable JavaScript.

Users should not place passwords, API keys, authentication tokens or other secrets in Checkpoint or Next Action fields.

Children

Ai-Chat Thread Manager is a general productivity tool and is not specifically directed to children.
